Medical support for Anthony Marchand
Gilles Chiorri, Race Director of La Solitaire du Figaro reports "Last night at 22:53, we received a call via VHF from Bretagne Crédit Mutuel Performance's skipper Anthony Marchand, inform us and the medical boat FMG Support, that he was experienceing a persistent pain whenever he moved. Immediately Dr. Jean-Yves Chauve, the race doctor on the ship FMG Support, diverted to the area where Anthony was to assist him.
"Any assistance during the night was impossible because of the thick fog and wind conditions in the area although there was regular contact through the night to help Anthony relieve the pain. Early this morning the persistent pain led Anthony to require assistance to come on board, and with the help of the navy a member of FMG Support - Marion Lawrence - was transferred on board the Figaro, this being done in record time and in 25 knots of wind and a rough sea of 1.5 m.
"At 7:50 the transfer of the crew was completed and the situation was under control. The boat is being escorted by FMG Support. Anthony Marchand is now in his bunk and all is well. Bretagne Crédit Mutuel Performance should reach Gijón at 2100 local time tonight where he will be seen by a team of physiotherapists, osteopaths from FMG Support and the medical team from Fidelia Assistance.
