New race management for Transat Jacques Vabre
2013 will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Transat Jacques Vabre doublehanded race and for this its organisers, the Association Transat Jacques Vabre, has decided to give the contract for running the event to Manfred Ramspacher and Sylvie Viant from Sirius Evénements.
“For its 20th anniversary the Transat Jacques Vabre has chosen a new race organisation, an important step forward for the event," says Jacques Rosio, Director of the Coffee division at Kraft/Mondelez Europe. "The first move for the 2013 race which will be a brand new format. Besides safety, which remains central to our objectives, the race organisation will aim for a better relationship with sailors, classes and owners to help establish the Transat Jacques Vabre as a leading-edge sailing event. We have made the choice taking into consideration experience, scrupulousness and the will to further develop the competitive side of the race."
Alain Gautier has been a consultant in this selection process.
According to Agnès Firmin Le Bodo, Vice-Mayoress of Le Havre the decision to choose Sirius Evénements, which runs the Class40s Normandy Channel Race, came after they had received five tenders to run the event. "In Le Havre we already know Sirius Evénements as the organiser of the Normandy Sailing Week and Sylvie Viant is a well-respected professional by the skippers. We needed to have a strong team to start working to put the event at the highest level.”
The 11th edition of the double-handed transatlantic race that will start in the autumn of 2013.
“Our mission will be: to prepare and manage carefully the sports aspects of the race, to establish a good relationship with the various classes to have an excellent line-up and to oversee the technical aspects of race management," said Ramspacher. "It’s undoubtedly a huge responsibility that we will share with the other directors under the authority of the Association Transat Jacques Vabre."
