As a Memorial Foundation is set up for the Volvo Ocean Race's most popular sailor

Magnus Olsson's memory is to be honoured at a memorial  service at Djurgårdsvarvet, Stockholm, on Sunday 16 June starting at 15.00 CET. The ceremony is expected to finish at about 16.30.

Light refreshments will be served to those who want to gather after the ceremony to share memories of Mange.

Those wishing to attend are encouraged not wear sombre clothing as Mange would not have wanted this to be a sad occasion.

Mange Olsson was an amazing man and one of the greatest sailors of all time. Almost everyone who met Mange, remembers him. He had a wonderful laugh and could be seen and heard even in a large crowd.

Everyone liked him, but Mange was not only a great laugh, he was a master of seeing all – and he made every person he met feel important. It did not matter if he was sailing across the Atlantic, or spending a couple of hours with a group of clients in the Stockholm archipelago, Mange always made sure he spoke to everyone and gave of his time without hesitation.

He was a unique man, who like no other, always instilled energy, humor and love to all around him. Everyone was important to Mange. Though most important to him were his partner Vica and his two sons, Niklas and Joakim. He spoke often and with great pride and love of these three, who were closest to him.

Mange made and had friends everywhere, and there are thousands of people worldwide who will carry out his legacy with love and pride. Forever.

In lieu of flowers donations to Mange Olsson’s Memorial Foundation. The Foundation is already supported by a number of Mange’s friends, as well as of companies he worked with during his offshore racing career. The Foundation’s purpose is to promote and encourage Swedish youth sailing and boating activities by issuing grants to individuals or organisations.
