For their first participation, Armel le Cleac'h and Banque Populaire managed to finish second in the last Vendee Globe. Since then the bank's sailing team has acquired the former Groupama 3 maxi-trimaran in which their skipper intends to compete in the 2014 Route du Rhum. Today the team has confirmed its particpation in the 2016 Vendee Globe.

Team Banque Populaire are currently working on the design of a new IMOCA 60 monohull to provide le Cleac'h on his second attempt and singlehanded round the world race.

Le Cleac'h says "I am very happy to be back in the Vendée Globe with Banque Populaire after our first very rewarding experience. I wanted to be back in the Vendée Globe. True, second place, it was a great success, but there's something missing. We will have the chance to build a new boat. We will have a lot of work to do over the next three years. A great experience begins...

"On reflection, the Vendée Globe is a lot of work, a lot of commitment to Banque Populaire, the team and me. But everyone is very motivated to return to it."

In 2014, Banque Populaire will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first involvement with sailing.
