Start next week?

Start of Mini Transat looks set to have had a delay of more than two weeks

Friday October 25th 2013, Author: James Boyd, Location: France

The scenario proposed yesterday by the Race Director, to start the 84 strong Mini Tansat fleet on Friday with a stopover in Gijon, has has not been chosen as the weather window has closed.

The Race Director, and the meteorologists he is working with, have identified that the opportunity to get to Gijon was too short, not allowing the entire fleet to reach the north Spanish port before the arrival of strong winds of 35 knots and a large swell of 6m.

Scenario number 2 - a start early next week - is still being viewed with optimism. At present the weather window looks good with the opportunity to send the fleet directly to Lanzarote on Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

The Mini Transat therefore returns to Code Red with no planned departure in the next 36 hours.
