MACIF dismasts

Disaster for Transat Jacques Vabre IMOCA 60 leaders

While leading the Transat Jacques Vabre's  IMOCA Class, MACIF was dismasted around 0000hrs UTC on last night, while lying some 140 miles from Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.

French co-skippers Francois Gabart and Michel Desjoyeaux immediately informed the Race Committee who in turned put the wheels in motion to ensure shipping in the area was warned of their predicament, to avoid colliding with MACIF.

Both Gabart and Desjoyeaux are reported to be safe and sound and have cut away the rig. They are headiing towards Salvador de Bahia.
