Devoti stump up prize for Finn Masters in Cannes next month

One lucky competitor at the Finn Masters, to be held in Cannes from 30 May until 4 June, will win an Olympic specification Finn courtesy of Devoti Sailing.

“At most events competitors hope to leave with a good result and great memories, at the Finn Masters in Cannes the competitors will also be hoping to leave with a brand new Devoti Finn” said Tim Tavinor of Devoti Sailing.

The Finn Masters are showing an early entry list of 187 sailors and this is set to be the largest ever masters sailing event, a credit to the strength of the Finn class which is often only noticed on the Olympic stage.

Michael Kurtz, Chairman of the Organising committee said “the Finn class is very lucky to have a supportive boat builder in Devoti Sailing and the donation of a new boat to be raffled to the competitors at the event will add further excitement to what we expect to be a fantastic masters event”

The idea was the brain child of Tim Tavinor of Devoti Sailing who was looking to add some spice to the event and to reward the class members for their valued custom over the years. Devoti contacted their key suppliers for the Finn; North Sails, Harken and HIT Masts and put together an Olympic specification boat to donate to the event free of charge.

During the Finn Masters event there will be daily prize givings, at each prize giving a draw will be made from the sailors who finished that days race(s) with an extra incentive to finish the practice race, then at the end of the week there will be a short-list of possible winners. At the final prizegiving a draw will be made from the daily short-list to determine who wins the boat. Imagine the tension building during the week as the short-list grows race-by-race peaking at the final prize giving as the lucky new owner of the boat is announced.

Throughout the week the boat will be on display for the competitors to drool over and I’m sure we’ll see many people sailing around the course with their fingers crossed.
