D35s head for the Med

Vulcain Trophy resumes this week at Beaulieu-sur-Mer

After five regattas in the Vulcain Trophy on Lake Geneva, so the Decision 35 catamarans for the first time have got out of Switzerland and are heading for two regattas on the Mediterranean, the first this week (1-4 September) at Beaulieu-sur-Mer, the second out of Antibes. 

Following the class' summer break, so the D35 fleet has been undergoing the profound logistical exercise of being transported from Geneva to the south of France. This required nine trucks for the multihulls and a flat bed for the masts.

At present in the 2011 championship Michel Desjoyeaux' Foncia is leading ahead of Marco Simeoni's Steve Ravussin-steered Veltigroup and Ernesto Bertarelli's Alinghi, winner of this year's Bol d'Or Mirabaud.

Torbjorn Tornqvist's Artemis Racing lies fourth overall, with Paul Cayard as a strategist, raised their game considerably following the Geneve-Rolle-Geneve. In fifth overall is ERC Carrefour Prevention, helmed by Jérôme Clerc, with his amateur team from Geneva, following their surprise win at the opening regatta of the season, the Grand Prix Ambassadeurs.

At the Grand Prix de Beaulieu-sur-Mer, there will be three training races on Thursday, 1 September, followed by four races on 2-3 September and three on the final day.
