At the conclusion of the Melges 32 racing in Porto Venere, a total of eight races were completed over three racing days thanks to the favourable weather conditions, the skills of the Race Committee and the staff of the Comitato Circoli Velici Golfo della Spezia.

Overall leader is G-Spot (Serena di Lapigio-Brcin, 5-4) with consistent results in six races leaving on point ahead of with Mascalzone Latino (Onorato-Appleton, 10-1). Serena di Lapigio, who is President of the International Melges 32 Class, has never previously won a Melges 32 event. He said: “Opening the season with a victory is a great satisfaction for us and ever more being able to defeat a competitive fleet like the one of these days here in Porto Venere. Considering the entry list we have decided to sail consistently, the best winning choice.”

Third podium place went to the Turkish team Eker (Eker-Fonda, 4-10), with Enrico Fonda and Giorgio Tortarolo on board as tactician and mainsail trimmer respectively.

At the end of the first day team Inga From Sweden was tenth (Goransson-Vascotto, 3-3), but ended up fourth thanks to the skills of her crew, Goransson supported by Vasco Vascotto, Giovanni Cassinari and Marchino Capitani.

In the top five was La Spezia Sailing Team (Balestrero-Cassinari, 2-6) of Matteo Balestrero, back in the class after some months away.
