Coville off around the world again
Thomas Coville and his maxi-trimaran Sodebo have set off on their attempt to break Francis Joyon's singlehanded non-stop around the world record.
The 31m Irens/Cabaret designed trimaran crossed the line off Ushant's Créac'h lighthouse at 13:33:08' UTC today. At the time the red trimaran was two reefs and small gennaker, the wind blowing 25 knots from the north and with a favorable current.
To beat Joyon's record of 57 days, 13 hours, 34 minutes and 6 seconds, Coville must return home before 9 January 2014 at 03:06:14 UTC.
The routing has Coville remaining on starboard until he gybes at around 2300 this evening. As he passes Cape Finisterre the wind is set to freshen slightly to 30 knots. He will then gybe again to get down the east side of the Azores high.
