The RYA is delighted to announce a sponsorship agreement between Marlow Ropes Ltd and RYA Team GBR. Marlow pioneered the use of synthetic fibres for yachting ropes and in the world of racing they still lead the field when it comes to innovation, so the RYA are pleased to have them on board at the top end of the sport.

Marlow will be the official supplier to the RYA Performance and Development Squads and will also provide specific product sponsorship for the period of twelve months to one Development Squad sailor in each class as recommended by the RYA. Each month a different Development Squad sailor will be selected, based on performance, and will receive free ropes for a year from Marlow.

Simon Pettit of Marlow Ropes stated, "We are delighted to be working so closely with RYA Team GBR and the talented sailors in the team. We see the relationship as a positive co-operation between manufacturer and the top performers in the sport and as investment and encouragement towards the top sailors of the future. This relationship will also form a vital part of our product development, which in turn will benefit all dinghy sailors."

The first sailors to gain advantage of the sponsorship agreement with Marlow are 49er Development Squad sailors Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes both from Exmouth. They have been singled out for their performance in the class this year and are starting to see the benefits of their hard work pay off, beating off fierce competition to win the Red Bull Tide Ride and finishing fifth overall at the RYA 49er Gold Series earlier this month.
Morrison and Rhodes will be the first Development Squad sailors to receive a year's free supply of Marlow ropes.

RYA Olympic Manager Stephen Park commented, "I am very pleased that we have Marlow backing for our World Class sailors. High performance ropes can make a significant impact on the ease and effectiveness of sailing and hopefully this partnership will help keep GBR sailors at the winning edge."
