Warming up for the Europeans
24 countries will be represented at the championships, the second time the Tornado Europeans have been held there. previously the regatta took place in 1994 and it was also the venue for the class' World Championship in 1991.
10 races are to be sailed between tomorrow (Monday) and Saturday with a layday on Thursday.
Most of the big international players will be there including Sydney Gold medallists Roman Hagara/Hans Peter Steinacher from Austria, and Silver medallists, Darren Bundock/John Forbes from Australia, and bronze medallists Roland Gaebler/John Andreas from Germany.
From a British perspective the team to watch will be Leigh McMillan and Mark Bulkeley fresh from their win at SPA Olympic classes regatta last month.
It will be good test for McMillan and Bulkeley to see if they can hold off the advances from these top sailors at the Europeans as well as team mates Hugh Styles and Adam May.
RYA Olympic Manager Stephen Park commented, "as all the worlds top sailors are in attendance at this open Europeans it would be a brave man who would bet on the outcome of this increasingly competitive class. Leigh McMillan and Mark Bulkeley attend having just won Spa regatta and will hope to continue their success, but I certainly will not be surprised to see Hugh Styles and Adam May challenging for the medals by the end of the week."
