A long wait

The National Twelve fleet near the end of Burton week

Friday August 12th 2005, Author: Graham Camm, Location: United Kingdom
As predicted there was a lack of wind first thing, but after a four hour postponement the sea fog cleared and the wind filled in. Antony and Jo Gifford were pathfinders and looked good on the first beat along with the other late starters. Chairman Nigel Nay and crew Hannah were looking good for second.

The right hand side of the beat seemed to pay with a bit more wind but there were also a few shifts in the middle of the beat. Geoff Camm and Amelia Hall took some good shifts and lined up on the starboard layline looking good for first but Graham Camm and Zoe Ballantyne tacked underneath them and just laid the windward mark before Gavin and Jasmin Willis had the chance to reach in over the top of them.

Places changed a little over the next two laps and the wind died towards the end of the second lap but Camm-Ballantyne kept the lead.

Race seven results

1-Graham Camm and Zoe Ballantyne
2-Steve Sallis and Jenny James
3-Caroline Martin and Andy Douglas
4-Antony and Jo Gifford
5-Bruce and Clare Johnson Rosie White
