Another win for Asko

The Australian 18 Footers League Club Championship is drawing to a close

The Asko Appliances team, led by Hugh Stodart, continued their domination over the fleet in light Easterly winds when they recorded an easy victory in race five of the Australian 18 Footers League Club Championship on Sydney Harbour on Sunday.

Asko led all the way to defeat John Harris' Rag & Famish Hotel by one minute 18 seconds with Casio Seapathfinder (Michael Coxon) just three seconds further back in third place.

Casio's third placing was enough to enable her to retain the overall lead in the series on 14 points, followed by Rag & Famish on 16, Club Marine 23, Ssangyong Yandoo 28 and Asko 37.

The final race of the championship will be sailed on 9 April. There are no discards from this series.

Asko grabbed an early lead from Rag & Famish on the windward leg to Rose Bay.

As the fleet set their spinnakers for the run back to the start mark, Asko led Rag by 20 seconds with Clynton Wade-Lehman's Toshiba third, appliancesonline.com.au fourth (John Winning Jr) and Casio fifth - one minute 15 seconds from the leader.

The lead was increased marginally downwind but Asko opened up a race winning lead over the next lap of the course.

Most interest centred on the battle for second placing with Rag & Famish just holding on to take second placing just ahead of Casio Seapathfinder.
