Kiel Week has adopted the new medal race format for Olympic and youth classes at this year's event

For the first time in its history Kiel Week, 17-25 June, will be holding final 'medal races' for the top ten teams after the qualification races during the week.

With this new format Kiel Week organisers say that they are stepping into the future of dinghy racing. The change in format follows the change to the 'medal race' system for the Olympics in 2008. “The new system of final races will increase the tension and will enable us to present the finals right in the front of the harbour. That will bring more emotions from the water direct to the people on the dockside, where they can follow the races very close”, explained Jobst Richter from the Kiel week organisation.

The same system will also be used in Kiel for younger sailors in the 420, 29, Pirat and Laser Radial classes to give them more experience with the system from the start.

Teams that are interested can now use the online registration on the website
