More Olympic babies
Sailing double Olympic gold medallist Sarah Webb is to combine a 2012 Olympic campaign with a new challenge, having today confirmed that she is expecting her first baby this autumn.
Webb – the two-time gold medal-winning crew of ‘three blondes’ Yngling fame – and husband Adam Gosling have announced their news, with the baby due in early October.
The 33-year-old, who won Olympic gold in Athens with Shirley Robertson and Sarah Ayton before repeating the feat with Ayton and Pippa Wilson in Beijing four years later, is already Britain’s most successful crew ever at Olympic level.
She is intent on combining impending motherhood with her quest to capture a third gold in 2012, although is keeping her options open for now as to which class she will mount her bid for qualification in when she returns to the water.
“It’s exciting times for Adam and I with a baby on the way, and we’re really looking forward to being first-time parents,” Webb explained. “Professionally, the lure of a winning a medal on home waters is also a huge motivation for me, so I will discuss the options over the next few months with the Skandia Team GBR Manager and determine the path and class that give me the best chance of achieving my dream of a third gold in 2012.
“It will be tough,” Webb continued, “but then again Olympic victory is tough, we learn to become focused whilst racing and my husband is happy to be left holding the baby – well, I haven’t told him yet, but I reckon he will be happy!”
