Fossett attempts Fastnet record

PlayStation en route to break 40 hour record

Saturday March 16th 2002, Author: James Boyd, Location: United Kingdom
Steve Fossett has made a clandestine trip to the UK to make an attempt on the record for the Fastnet Race course aboard his mighty 125ft catamaran, PlayStation.

Fossett set sail from Cowes at around 1650 GMT on Friday and in order to break the record must arrive in Plymouth, having rounded the Fastnet Rock, by 0850 tomorrow morning (Sunday). The team are believed to have rounded the Rock at around 1000 this morning and looked to be on track to demolish the record set for the 608 mile course by Loick Peyron on board the 60ft trimaran Fujicolor during the 1999 Fastnet Race.

Obviously Fossett has had the advantage of leaving when he felt the weather was correct.
