Racing starts today in the 2.4mR World Championship at the Coconut Grove YC in Miami with the practice race, the first race proper is Saturday.

The 55 boat entry includes the top three from the previous world championship lead by the all conquering Heiko Kroeger of Germany, reigning World Champion and Paralympic Gold Medallist. Also in the fleet are Stellen Berlin and Peter Norlin of Sweden, top Norwegian Ole Eide, the Finn Rikard Bjurstrom and top American sailor, Tom Browne - who won the preceding Miami Olympic Classes Regatta (OCR).

This is an open event, not a Paralympic event and is normally dominated by the Scandinavian countries and Kroeger They did not enter the OCR at Miami last week but will be out in force for the Worlds attempting to beat Kroeger.

Britain has a three boat team competing here with team coach, George Barker. Top Britain in the OCR event was Andy Millbrand at fifth with Allen Smith in sixth place and Brian Harding in tenth. With the addition of the German and Scandinavian competitors they will struggle to maintain those good results.
