Great sailing returns to Italy for the Nation’s Cup 2003, the match racing event held in the city of Trieste, Italy, over 14-21 June. Six out of ten of the syndicates which participated in the last America’s Cup will be participating including the winning team from Switzerland, Ernesto Bertarelli's Alinghi.

The sailors taking part will be sailing the Open 55 yachts drawn by Mascalzone Latino designer, Giovanni Cecarelli. These boats are quite unique on the match racing circuit, requiring 10 crew to sail them.

Team Alinghi will led by the four time Olympic medallist Jochen Schuemann. Oracle Racing will be represented by Italian Tommaso Chieffi, while OneWorld will field a team led by James Spithill. Meanwhile the Swedes of Victory Challenge will be represented by Magnus Holmberg, and former GBR Challenge helmsman Andy Beadsworth is leading the British charge. The Italian team of Mascalzone Latino will be sailed by the local talent of Vasco Vascotto with Flavio Favini, the duo which will lead the Italian team in the next America’s Cup.

Robins get underway tomorrow with the semi-finals scheduled for Friday and the finals to be held on Sunday.
