Following cancellation of the Grand Prix Beau-Rivage Palace this weekend due to a storm on Friday and lack of wind today, the 2007 Challenge Julius Baer, the 10 regatta series on Lake Geneva for the Decision 35 catamarans has been won by Ernesto Bertarelli’s Alinghi. Alain Gautier’s Foncia was second, ahead of Jean-François Demole’s Cadence.

Alinghi’s crew had been looking forward to trying to win this final race after finishing twice second and once third in this year's series. “It’s true,” commented Pierre-Yves Jorand, one of Bertarelli’s key crewmen: “Ernesto really wanted to win this event on his own lake. 2007 is the Alinghi year, and this victory is a nice ending to a fabulous season.”

“It was pure team work”, adds team coordinator Andrew Graham. “Since last year, we have been working with Christopher Rast as coach. His input has proved to be great. We have been sailing relatively conservatively, avoiding premature starts and mistakes and not necessarily aiming for victory 0 but continuity. This strategy has proved to be the right one long-term.”

Nicolas Grange, the President of lake Geneva’ multihulls association, commented: “The Class has reached a great maturity. The teams are very close from each other, and every team can win races. There are lots of very famous international sailors, and this brings a lot to the level of our young sailors. I am also very happy to note that the atmosphere on land is excellent. We are fierce competitors on the water, but good friends on land. “
