Swedish final at the Tróia Portugal Women’s Cup

Three victories in a row gave Marie Bjorling undisputed victory on her debut at Tróia Portugal Women’s Cup, with 17 victories in 18 races.

Up against fellow-countrywoman Karin Hagstrom, the Swedish skipper and dominated each of the races even having incurred on a penalty during the prestart manoeuvres in two of the matches.

“Those were very competitive flights against Karin, vice-champion of last year’s northern championship”, said Marie Bjorling, who is now preparing for the Women's World Match Racing Championship to be held in Lysekil, Sweden from 26 July until 1 August.

Surrounded by her team and her family, Marie Bjorling received a prize money of 2000 Euros of a total of 8000 Euros, shared between the first finishers.

Sun Sailing Team, the organising company said that this year’s edition was the best ever held here in Tróia, because the resort of Sonae Turismo brought a very pleasant environment for the welcome of the international skippers.

“Next year’s Tróia Portugal Match Cup will be at it’s height”, said Justino Sá Machado adding that as of September he will study the best timing for next year’s edition together with the directors of the World Match Racing Tour International Circuit.
