Steiner X-Yachts Gold Cup concludes
The Steiner X-Yachts Gold Cup taking place at Marina di Scarlino in Maremma, Tuscany concluded today with all 19 races having been held over the four day long regatta with close to 80 yachts from 14 nations competing on four separate courses. The event was organised by the Yacht Club Italiano and the Club Nautico Scarlino, in collaboration with X-Yachts Italia and in partnership with Steiner.
Lelagain owned by Franco Solerio with tactician Branco Brcin has been crowned winner of the X-35 World Championship on 34 points, a 13 point lead over Karma, second overall. This is the second consecutive World title: in 2009 Lelagain won the World Championship in Germany and in 2010 triumphed in the X-35 class at the Copa del Rey.
Sideracordis owner Pier Vettor Grimani with Daniele Cassinari is the X-41 European Champion on 23 points, six ahead of Le Coq Hardi in second.
The Prize Giving Ceremony was held in La Piazzetta at Marina di Scarlino in the afternoon with wine and refreshments offered by Maremma Tuscany.
X-35 World Championship: today’s race
The start gun was fired at 1400 once the thermal breeze had filled in on the Gulf of Scarlino blowing fron the northwest at 10-12 knots. X on the Beach owner and helmsman Ingo Dietrich rounded the first windward mark in the lead, stretching out ahead of Lelagain and Giochelotta, winning the race and finishing the championship in 6th overall.
Ingo Dietrich, commented: “ I am very happy to be back racing in Scarlino. I have been coming here for a couple of years now and it’s great to see how it keeps on getting better and better. The race course is fantastic and there is excellent management both on the water and on land.”

3. Spirit of Nerina , Alberto Fusco (ITA): 48 points
4. Margherita, Roberto Mazzucato (ITA): 55 points
5. Tixelio , Carlo Brenco (ITA): 58 points
The final X-41 European Championshiprace also started at 1400 with WB Five with Signorini at the helm taking first place, followed by Le Coq Hardi with Francesco de Angelis calling tactics in second and in third the Spanish Iberostar featuring tactician Luis Doreste.
