While Peter Morton has been the catalyst that has revitalised the Quarter Ton class over recent years, so in Belgium the Half Ton Class has been slowly getting itself off the ground. This year for the first time in its new state the Half Ton Classics Cup is to be held in Cowes with a title sponsor in South Boats.

As with the Quarter Ton racing out of Cowes, so is the fifth Half Ton Classics Cup will be run by the Royal Corinthian YC. The event will be held over 22-26 August and is open to all former IOR half ton racing yachts. It promises to be the largest event ever in the history of the half tonners.

The Notice of Race and entry forms can be downloaded here. At the event, held last year in Nieuwpoort, Belgium, 25 Half Tonners attended.

South Boats build work boats for the offshore wind industry. South Boats is based at Cowes on the Isle of Wight, with production and operations taking place over four sites and is one of the largest boat builders in the UK with over 150 skilled workers and a turnover in excess of £20m.
