The Clipper 2002 Race Start press conference will take place at 10:30 on Monday, 21 October at the Pan American Club, Albert Dock, to mark the ceremonial arrival of the Clipper Round the World Yachts in Liverpool.

The eight-strong fleet taking part in the Clipper 2002 round the world race will sail into the Mersey River on Saturday, 19 October, after storms in the SW Approaches forced the yachts to seek safe harbour in Falmouth earlier this week. They will be based at Albert Dock in Liverpool until the start.

The fleet, representing the cities of Liverpool, London, New York, Bristol,
Cape Town, Glasgow, Jersey and Hong Kong, will set sail on at 14:00 on Sunday, 27 October on a route that takes the boats through the Panama Canal and across the Pacific to Japan before heading on to the Indian Ocean and rounding the Cape of Good Hope and the return up the Atlantic.

Clipper 2002 also boasts its first female Clipper skipper, at a time when
the likes of Ellen MacArthur and Emma Richards are leading the way in
British sailing, with Samantha Fuller (26) set to skipper New York’s racing
entry in the epic global contest.
