VDH ahead of record

News from Jean-Luc van den Heede's attempt on the singlehanded E-W non-stop round the world record

Thursday November 21st 2002, Author: Jean-Luc van den Heede, Location: Transoceanic

The southern hemisphere's trade winds are well established and I am not going to complain, even if it is a bit monotonous. Apart from sail adjustments under some clouds I am not overwhelmed with activity particularly since (and again I am not complaining!) I have not opened my toolbox.

As a result I have my nose in a book ("Un souvenir" by Michel Deon) and I'm listening to music (jazz yesterday evening).

Talking of music, Hugues Aufray, Adrien's godfather told me on the telephone the incredible news: the capsize of Steve Ravussin. I did say that they are not boats for single-handed sailors! Poor Steve, he would have made a good winner, he's a very nice chap! It shows that no race is won until the finishing line is crossed.

Until tomorrow
