Sponsor announced for Global Challenge
BG Group is involved in natural gas market development in some 20 countries worldwide and across five continents. The principal activities of the FTSE30 company are exploration and production of gas and oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), transmission distribution and power generation.
There is just one month to go before the inaugural race sets sail (25th August 2002) from Ocean Village Marina, UK. First port of call for BG Group and the five other 72' Global Challenge race yachts will be Boston, USA. This will also be the first port of call for the Global Challenge, which sets sail in September 2004.
This is the first time that BG Group has worked with Challenge Business and sponsored a yacht. The sponsorship offers the opportunity to exhibit the company's image and identity on a world stage, while the teamwork involved in sailing mirrors the performance values the company encourages and helps development throughout the organisation.
David Millar, Head of Group Marketing from BG Group, comments, " We see the Challenge Transat and Global Challenge as an excellent way of enabling us to deliver a number of key Group objectives. We will also be utilising the yacht for brand awareness and involving our employees in team building activities"
Simon Walker, managing director of Challenge Business adds: "Having BG Group on board is excellent news for the race and adds another dimension to our sponsoring community. BG Group recognised the multi faceted marketing opportunities of the race and we have worked together to create a package which will help them to deliver their objectives.
"Sponsors for all of Challenge Business' events are going from strength to strength and we're particularly delighted to welcome BG Group as they're a new sponsor to the existing portfolio and are also sponsoring a yachting event for the first time which is excellent for the sailing industry as a whole.
"We wish BG Group the best of luck in the race and look forward to working with the team in the lead up to and during the event."
