STOP PRESS : L'Hydroptere set sail from the Ventnor start line at 17:11:43 BST. By this time the wind had picked up to force 5-6 and she was sailing with under reefed main.

Olivier de Kersauson's Geronimo was the first of the three boats to set off today on their attempts to break Steve Fossett's record for sailing non-stop around the British Isles. The giant trimaran passed a line off the Lizard, Cornwall, at 13:07:02 BST and was lining up for an anticlockwise attempt.

Tracy Edwards' Maiden2 crossed another start line off Ventnor on the south east at 13:48:06 BST. The blue 110ft catamaran started in force 4-5 winds under full main and genniker and a clear blue sky, but against a foul tide, although this will have little effect on the speeds she should be achieving with this amount of wind.

At present L'Hydroptere is en route to the start line off Ventnor where she is expected shortly.
