Route du Rhum update
Tuesday November 26th 2002, Author: James Boyd, Location: Transoceanic
More than two days after Mike Golding and Ellen MacArthur, the third placed Open 60 arrived in Guadeloupe.
Joé Seeten aboard Arcelor Dunkerque, the sistership to Mike Golding's Ecover and Emma Richards' Pindar, crossed the finish line on Monday at 13:36:51 in a time of 16 days, 00 hours, 51 mins and 51 secs. Seeten, a sailmaker and Vendee Globe competitor, did well to fend off an attack from Roland Jourdain on board Sill.
Like Golding and MacArthur, Seeten took a northerly route at the start of the Route du Rhum missing the full brunt of the storm and launching him into fourth place as boats such as Sill top the south suffered.
