Splitting hairs

Maiden II's 24 hour world record has now been ratified by the WSSRC but at a new distance

Thursday June 27th 2002, Author: James Boyd, Location: United Kingdom
Maiden II's outright 24 hour passage record has finally been ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council, as standing at 694.78 miles, not 697 miles as previously reported. Their average speed for this period was 28.95 knots.

The WSSRC, who arbitate on these matters, says that the final position of Maiden II's 697 mile run fell two minutes outside the 24 hour period.

The new distance has since been sent to the WSSRC council members who have now ratified Maiden II's world record set between 12 and 13 June.
