The BBC documentary Ellen MacArthur - in the eye of the storm will be broadcast tonight Thursday, 17th April at 10.35pm on BBC1 (subject to any last-minute re-scheduling).

Seven on-board cameras positioned at the mast, bow, stern, galley and nav station recorded every moment of the record attempt. On board cameraman Andrew Preece from TV production partner APP captured the mood of the 14 crew as they endured the high and lows of their attempt on the 64 day record. Kingfisher2 was ahead of the existing Jules Verne record when they lost the mast and suddenly "life on board had no purpose". The shock, disappointment and frustration is etched on the crew's faces in the aftermath...

Filmed by BBC Wales 'Extreme Lives' production team headed up by Steve Robinson who have tracked Ellen's progress since before the Vendée Globe. The soundtrack to the 50 minute documetary was especially recorded by the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Meanwhile....Offshore Challenge Sailing Team new recruit Sam Davies has taken delivery of her brand new Beneteau Figaro 2 as preparation begins in earnest for the first event starting 18 May...

Sam will be the first UK female entry in the tough short-handed Figaro circuit for 25 years since sailor turned novellist Clare Francis. Sam, a regular crew on Tracy Edwards' Maiden II will be up against some of the best solo sailors in the world - including Vendée Globe winner Michel Desjoyeux.

Meanwhile...Vendee Globe wannabe Nick Moloney has been nominated for a top sailing award in his native Australia. Nick is currently in Australia visiting potential Vendée Globe sponsors, giving talks and visiting family and friends has been nominated by the NSW Skiff Assocation for "Yachtsman of the Year".

Described by Bruno Peyron (who was his skipper on board Orange during last year's Jules Verne Trophy record) as a "complete sailor" few can match his credentials for racing short/long course, crewed/solo, matching/record attempts...

Nick has recently been appointed as the Global Speaker for Extreme Sports Programme at the Victorian Institute of Sport [equivalent to the British Sports Foundation to promote competitve sport at its highest level]. Nick is well qualified for the job...he was the first person to windsurf across the Bass Strait [between Australia and Tasmania] and is still one of the fastest men around the planet following his 64 day loop of the planet on board Orange.

Meanwhile...Ellen's autobiography 'Taking on the World' has now been published overseas and is available in France, US, Germany, Italy and Holland (publication 22 April), and in Polish shortly!
