Monday August 12th 2002, Author: James Boyd, Location: Transoceanic
The Antarctica Cup International Yacht Race organisers have amended the closing date for Race Slot Reservations to Thursday, 31 October 2002. Following discussions with the yacht design and construction team the latest date for all participants to be fully committed is extended to Friday, 14 February 2003.

The conference for the race organisers and prospective entries is still due to take place in late November at which time more details of the new boat is to be announced.

To recap, the Antarctica Cup is a non-stop race through the Southern Ocean in Ron Holland one design maxis. To enter, part of the entry fee includes the purchase of the boat and in theory there is enough prize money available to win back the cost of your entry fee.

To date there are entries in from both Paul Cayard and Roy Heiner, plus two teams from Australia - one led by Wild Thing's Grant Wharington, the other the Western Australian team of local businessman Mark Rodreda. From the UK there is the Brit XL team led by John Quigley and from Southern California there is an OAP team, the Greybeard Syndicate led by Buzz Boettcher.
