Jeremie Beyou's IMOCA 60 Maître Coq was relaunched today in Port La Foret, with Beyou and his team scheduled to head offshore for the first time in the team's new Vendee Globe steed early next week.

"It's a great moment, very moving, and marks the beginning of our journey together with Jeremie," said Vincent Robin, Marketing Director of Maître Coq. "This is a great moment we will be able to share with all employees and partners of Maître Coq. We are already in the race!"

Work began in January on Beyou's boat, formerly Michel Desjoyeaux's 2008-9 Vendee Globe winner and then Iker Martinez and Xabi Fernandez's Mapfre in last year's Barcelona World Race.

"We worked with Mer Agitee  and Michel Desjoyeaux's team for reasons of logistics and proximity. We started with a complete inventory of the boat and examining all the deck fittings. We changed the original mast used by Iker Martinez on the Barcelona World Race last year. We had good discussions with Iker and his team. All the information they supplied us with was very useful in our testing and rerigging of the mast and the sail design. We have also carried out a lot of work with Incidences on a new suit of sails.

"Electrics, electronics and computers have also been reviewed. Each of these steps took time, because they are essential. The last point was the boat's paint job... Today everything is ready, it only remains to complete the reassembly, make adjustments and measures, carry out the 90° test and we should be able to go sailing next week."

In recent weeks, Beyou has spent time visiting and meeting staff and partners of Maître Coq. "These meetings help explain my job, the work the team does, life aboard, the boat's program. This is important for them to properly follow the race then. These meetings are essential. They are the foundation of my relationship with all employees of Maître Coq. Such a program can only work if there are human exchanges, and more direct. It's a pleasure every time."

The launch was also used as an opportunity for Beyou's team to weigh and measure their boat.

The first sailing is scheduled for Monday, 12 March when the boat will head for Lorient.
