Sam Davies returns to Les Sables d'Olonne
Sam Davies and her jury rigged IMOCA 60 Savéol arrived back in Les Sables d'Olonne today at 14:30, at the same time as Jeremie Beyou and Maitre CoQ.
In true Vendee Globe form, the two sailors where welcomed back into Les Sables d'Olonne by dozens of boats and wellwishers as they made the long voyage down the channel into the harbour into the Port Olona marina where they left from on 10 November.
Up her jury rig, Davies had hoisted a banner with the message: "Thank you for your support, I will be back."
On her arrival Sam said: "This is a huge homecoming, I did not expect it ... When you're at sea, it's hard to imagine that there are many people who support us even if I receive an impressive number of messages of encouragement. In a sense, it makes me even more sad because I am here due to my retirement but at the same time, it is a huge comfort and it makes me proud to have brought Savéol here to say thank you to all my supporters and all my partners. This is a mechanical sport, you take risks, but that's part of the adventure. All this makes me want to go back to sea as soon as possible and return to Les Sables d'Olonne in four years time."
